Fun in Museums

My family's idea of fun seems to be going to museums. Don't get me wrong--I love museums! But wandering through the galleries of the Art Institute on one day and the Field Museum on another, I began to consider ways to ramp up the experience.

Warning: some of the following WILL get you escorted out by burly docents.

Do performance art on roller skates, a la "L.A. Story."

Bring along small signs to stick on the walls next to the paintings, e.g., "Jackson Pollack, Age 4."

Tape a completed jigsaw puzzle to one of the blank walls. This is why my brother hadn't been back to the Art Institute since his college days at Northwestern.

Wear a blazer. Pretend to be a docent. Wander from room to room, making up random "facts" about the pieces. For example, "Matisse's use of color is particularly impressive when you consider that he was blind from birth." See if you can get a tour group to follow you.

Guggenheim Museum in New York. Bucket of marbles. 'Nuff said.

Stand with your weight on one hip and frown thoughtfully at a painting. Make a profoundly pretentious yet inappropriate comment like, "The book was better." Move to the next piece. Repeat.

hahaha. You're kinda demented. (I like that!)

Hubs and I did the Art Museum in Chicago a few years back. They had a special Degas exhibit. Art students were lined up to get a chance to study his work up close and personal. We just kinda whizzed by, "Eh, that's nice" and moved on. We suffer from short attention spans! hahaha

I'll take it as a compliment, Vicki. :)
